IPMS Richmond is helping an estate liquidate a fellow modeler's kit collection. There are over 1000 kits. Many are US NAVY and US Marines WWII to Present. Also for sale are boxes of decals, and 100's of PE and resin detail parts. Kits are from all manufactures and in all scales (see link below). The sale will be held at 10847 Sunset Hills Dr., North Chesterfield, Va. 23236 This is a one day sale starting at 9:00AM and ending at 5:00PM or when all the kits are gone. Prices are very reasonable at 50% or less of retail with 100's of kits marked at $5.00.
Here are a few pictures from tonight's setup and pricing event.
The following link will give you a PDF listing all the kits at the start of this process.

Model Forum/Discussion Group Picture Posting Mess
If you visit the various Model discussion groups on the Internet, you may be in for a terrible surprise. Photobucket is a web Photo Hosting service that many sites and modelers use to post pictures of their models or modeling topics to the web. At the end of June Photobucket stopped allowing photos on their servers from being posted on "third party" sites. Unless you paid $399 per year. It went from free to "NO WAY JOSE'". That would be bad enough if it only applied to postings after June 28th, 2017. It applied retroactively to any posting done in the past. So, if you go to sites that exclusively use Photobucket or posts by users who used Photobucket, instead of seeing the pictures they posted, you see this.
So be careful what "free" services you use. This does not impact every site or every posting, but it does impact a large percentage. -Bob Walls

IPMS Richmond Club Display Case
We have moved the club display case to the Chesterfield County Airport terminal and it is now pretty close to being full. If club members have commercial or private type aircraft models, please contact Mark Elder to make arrangements to have them put in the display. We are getting rave reviews form the folks who visit the airport.

This would make an awesome Photo in Time entry
Looking for a subject to model for the 2018 Old Dominion Open Photo in Time category? All you need is one Sherman kit, some good water modeling skills, two tanker figures and a hill! This would be as easy as pie for Richard Leininger our resident IPMS Richmond Water Guru.

Wood Look Bases for less than $2.00
So your prized build is finished and you want a base. If it is 1/72 scale or 5 inches or less, there is an easy and inexpensive way to do your bases. If you have a table saw and some craft paint and want a wood background for your model, then go to to a Big Box hardware store's flooring department and look at their fake wood flooring samples. Most are under a dollar or two. The good ones are made of bamboo and finished to look like something else. The cheaper ones are particle board and covered with some form of wood like top. They have edges which are made to lock into the next piece. You will have to saw that off with your table saw. On the particle board ones, use a craft acrylic paint that matches or compliments the top and paint the for edges being careful not to paint the tops. Below is my first attempt where I learned how not to cut and paint these!
The size of the samples will limit the size models you can use on these. But another plus besides price is since they are not real wood with real grain, so if you want to apply a wet ground cover like Celluclay or paper mache' the thin base will not warp.

This is what the backs of the samples look like. |
Cut slowly to avoid damaging the top layer with the wood grain finish. |
