This meeting on December 13 will also be our chapter's annual Christmas dinner and contest! All IPMS Richmond members and guests are welcome.

If you are planning on entering models in the contest, it would be a great help if you completed your entry form prior to arriving at the meeting. A fillable form is attached HERE. Simply save, complete, and print. Your contest committee thanks you!

November 2021 Spare Parts & Meeting

Our November meeting will include the premiere of rapid-fire Mini-Demos. Each participant will demonstrate a modeling technique, product, gadget, or tool--all within ten minutes or less!

2022 ODO Category Awards

Shown above are the category awards (first, second, and third place) for the 2022 Old Dominion Open. The medals are three inch-diameter metal in gold, silver, and bronze finishes. The finishes are so shiny that a flash could not be used to take the photo.

The "Best of" awards are currently being designed and a photo will be posted when they are complete.

So... the ODO is a little over five months away. Get busy finishing all those COVID builds and let's have a great turnout on February 26!

2022 ODO Brochure is NOW AVAILABLE

The brochure for our February 26, 2022 Old Dominion Open is now available online. You can access it through the tab above or by CLICKING HERE.

Further information will be posted soon along with reminders for attendees and contest entrants.

Due to the anticipated increase of  models in the contest, please be aware that we are LIMITING the number of contest entries per modeler to TWELVE with no more that THREE per category.

We will also be limiting the space allocated for onsite completion of your entry forms, so please complete your forms before coming to the show. The entry forms in the brochure can be downloaded to your PC, printed, and saved.

Our monthly meeting will be held tomorrow, Monday, August 9 at the Smoketree Community Building. Scott Wallace will continue his demonstration on soldering PE parts. Be sure to be there!

Be sure to attend our next meeting on August 9 at the Smoketree Community Building. In addition to our usual fun and comraderie, Scott Wallace will present Part 2 of his demo on soldering PE:

1. Brief overview from Part 1
2. Introduction to soldering trechniques, tools, and materials
3. Demonstrations of:
1. Seams
2. Tinning

Scott will be folding and soldering a 1/35 scale German MG34/42 ammo box (patronenkasten) for this purpose.

Time permitting, Scott will also discuss his current Hummel project (scratch-built interior) complete with engine and scratch-built ZF SSG77 APHON transmission.

June Spare Parts and Meeting

As a reminder, our June 14 meeting will be live and in-person at the Smoketree Community Building! Bob Walls will present a demo on sanding and sanding sticks and will have free samples for everyone who attends. We will also be holding a Swap-n-Sell for those needing to increase (or decrease--ha!) their stash. Bring your own brown paper bags for sneaking said items back into your house.

Chapter Contest: July 12, 2021

Our COVID-delayed chapter contest will be held during our meeting on July 12, 2021 at the Smoketree Community Center.

The contest categories are:

6. Real Space/Sci-fi
   
7. Dioramas & Vignettes
8. Other Subjects
9. Birth Year Entries (Special Category)

As we are expecting a large number of entries, attached below is an editable entry form that you can complete at home PRIOR TO THE CONTEST. Please do so if you are able to lessen the load on the organizers the night of the contest.

Next Meeting: June 14, 2021

Not only is it Flag Day and our first meeting back at Smoketree Community Center after a COVID-related too-long absence, but Bob Walls will present an overview of sandpaper and sanding sticks. Bob's presentation is modeled after one that Scott Bregi did for AMPSCV a couple of years ago.

Bob's overview will cover:

• Review of the different sanding papers available
• Review of the sanding sticks available
• How and when to use these tools during your modeling
• Demonstration of using Norton A275 (400 grit) Self Stick No Fill sandpaper to make your own sanding blocks and “sanding sticks”

Those attending the demo will receive a foot-and-a-half of the Norton A275 roll to try at home! I am still using the sample I received at Scott's demo and can vouch for the quality and usefulness of this product!

Be sure to be there on June 14th!

Next Meetings

Yes, you read that correctly... meetings is plural! Since COVID vaccinations are becoming more widespread, the IPMS Richmond E-board feels comfortable in outlining the next four meetings.

April 12: This will be an online meeting held via Jitsi. On an iPad, Chrome, or other tablet, iPhone or Android phone, just go to your app store and search for the JITSI Meet app. Download the app and you are pretty much ready to go. Or you can watch from a Personal Computer or Laptop but your ability to fully participate may be limited by your equipment. On these you go to the JITSI web page. In all cases, the room is "ipmsrichmond".

May 10: An in-person meeting! We will meet at Mike's brother's restaurant for our delayed "Christmas (in May) Party." Due to COVID restrictions, attendance will be limited to IPMS Richmond members and one guest each.

June 14: A normal meeting back at the Smoketree Community Building.

July 12: Chapter Contest at the Smoketree Community Building. The theme remains "Your Birth Year" as a special category. Contestants may enter a model depicting a subject that was around or in use the year they were born. All the other contest categories will be in effect, as well.
