We'll see everyone on Feb. 26th!
As a reminder, our next meeting is Monday, February 14. The chapter needs ALL members to attend to participate in the important final planning for our 2022 Old Dominion Open Model Show and Contest to be held on Saturday, February 26.
The February 2022 issue of Spare Parts is now available at the Spare Parts tab above or by clicking here.
ALL IPMS Richmond members are requested to attend Monday night's meeting as final plans will be made for the upcoming ODO. Be there or be square!
If you're not building Gundam or Star Wars kits you really need to start! Here are two pictures of the thirty-five (!) kits donated by Bluefin/Bandai for our 2022 ODO:
Thank you Bluefin/Bandai!
We have also received raffle donations from Hobby Town. I know they're small in the photo, but those are $50.00 gift cards. Thank you, Hobby Town!
2022 OLD DOMINION OPEN (ODO) ATTENDEES
The ODO Committee held a meeting on January 31st to discuss the current conditions related to Covid and the affect they will have on our upcoming show on February 26th. At this time there are no meeting size or mask restrictions being imposed by the locality or the Commonwealth of Virginia. We do, however, encourage anyone wishing to wear a mask in concurrence with CDC recommendations for indoor spaces to do so. We also ask that if you are sick or not feeling well, to be safe and considerate of others, you should forgo our Show this year. That goes for Vendors as well and a full refund of table purchase will be provided. If mandated mask restrictions are imposed by either the locality or the Commonwealth, they will need to be abided by, but we do not anticipate that at this time. Attendance of the Old Dominion Open is at your own risk and should be personally evaluated.
Another important item of discussion of the Committee was a rule change. The current model entry maximum per attendee is 12 with a maximum of 3 in a single category. The total by an entrant has been revised to 8 with a max of 1 in a single category. We feel the added build time produced by lockdowns and lack of Shows will likely produce a larger than normal number of model entries. A larger number of entries will overwhelm our limited table space and increase judging time significantly. Therefore, this measure has been taken to ensure there is sufficient display table space and time to complete the judging in a timely manner. We apologize for this restriction, but feel it is necessary for the 2022 ODO to maintain our Show’s high standard the modeling community has come to expect.
The difficulties in conducting a Show in the middle or tail end of a Pandemic have been many. Our IPMS Richmond membership have been diligently preparing for the 2022 ODO. We ask that everyone please have patience the day of the show. Lines may be longer and slower than in a normal year. The front doors will open at 8:30am to attendees. Only IPMS Richmond members will be allowed entry through the front doors prior to 8:30 for set up. Only Vendors will be allowed through the back doors for their set up prior to 8:30am. There is limited space between the front door and the registration tables. We fully expect the registration line to reach outside the front doors, so please plan accordingly based on the weather.
Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you to the 2022 Old Dominion Open on February 26th.
