2020 ODO: Rules Changes!

There are TWO MAJOR CHANGES to the Rules for the 2020 ODO: Inappropriate Entries and Picture Build Books.

A. Inappropriate Entries [This brings the 2020 ODO into alignment with IPMS National rules.]

The Chief Judge will exclude/remove from competition any entry considered by Contest officials to be inappropriate or offensive to generally acknowledged standards of taste and acceptability. The following are prohibited in competition and may not be placed on display at any IPMS event:

1. There shall be no depiction of excretory functions depicting any human being or animal.

2. There shall be no depiction of sadomasochistic activity, equipment, settings or situations, to any degree, regardless of whether there are figures in the model and regardless of whether any figures present in the model are clothed.

3. There shall be no depictions of explicit sexual conduct, bilateral or autoerotic, regardless of degree and regardless of the clothing-status of the participants that involves the touching of the breasts or genitals or other erogenous zones of any depicted figure.

4. There shall be no depiction of any nude human male or female figures where the genitalia of the figure are exposed where the clear intent of the same is to portray a sexual scene.

Picture Build Books
Build books of reasonable size can be placed on the table next to the model entry. However, these books shall not be viewed or considered in any way by the judges of that particular category. All enhancements, additions, or modifications for judges’ consideration should be noted in the box provided on the model entry form.

Both of these changes are highlighted in red in the 2020 ODO brochure.

IPMS Richmond Helps Ronald McDonald House

A local RVA restaurant, Lunch and Supper, in Scott's Addition, holds an annual PIG auction of painted concrete pigs for the benefit of Ronald McDonald House. This year IPMS Richmond entered the auction with our WWII USAAF FLYING PIG modelled and painted by Mike Lyons, our president. Through his work and our club's donation to purchase the concrete pig, IPMS Richmond helped raise $950 for the charity!

2019 Group Build

The IPMS Group Build for 2019 will be "Mustangs." There are only a few rules:

  • Your model must be started and completed in 2019.
  • If it is a plane, it must be 1/48 scale.
  • If it is an auto, it must be 1/24 - 1/25 scale.
  • If it's a horse, scale is whatever it is :)

We'd like EVERYONE to build something. We are more interested in the number of modelers than in the number of models. This build is open to anyone who wishes to join in, member or non-member of IPMS Richmond.

There is no plan for a display, although it might be nice to see them all at our Christmas dinner meeting.

2019 ODO Vendor Expansion!

With the completed rental of the 9,000 sq. ft. Colonial Hall right next door to our usual Henrico Hall venue, the 2019 Old Dominion Open will have one of the largest vendor areas of any show on the East Coast: 1,360 linear feet (that's four and a half football fields long, folks!) of "model heaven." That increases our number of vendor tables from 120 to 170!

The tables in Henrico Hall sold out in early November and half  are already  booked for Colonial Hall. If you have been waiting to rent a table for the ODO on February 23, 2019, act now! Please use the form linked below or on the 2019 ODO tab at the top of the page. Tables will go to those first paid after Jan. 15th. If you have not paid for your reservations, mail in your check.
