Great write up by Mr. Motley. The F-111 is one of my favorite aircraft of all times. Also, this is the 1960's we are talking about, the golden age (if you ask me) of Naval Jet Aircraft after the early F9F Cougar and others. These aircraft were of the high-vis era, where color was as much varied as the aircraft's mission. Interesting though, I was not aware that the F-111 used the initial Pratt & Whitney TF-30 Turbofan engines that would suffer from the same high angle of attack stalls that the F-14 Tomcat that would follow in the F-111's design footsteps. I find it amusing that Grumman would use not learn that lesson which would go on to get F-14 pilots killed.
I think the Recon version of the F-111is one hot sexy bird. Fast, full of photographic equipment, settling in to do a recon bird's mission and excel at it.
